Operational Excellence Maintaining this standard on an island in Tanzania is a massive logistical achievement. The property is spotless, and the effort required to keep the grounds so well-manicured and the staff so well-trained justifies the upscale price point. The Rooms We are usually quite picky when it comes to resort rooms, but Room 65 was excellent. It is well-maintained and provides the right balance of comfort and privacy. Culinary & Drinks The food is a step above typical resort fare. The set dinners are comparable to a Michelin Bib Gourmand level, while the buffets are a solid, upscale average. A great touch: all coffee specialties (made with a professional espresso machine/Siebträger) and still/sparkling water are provided free of charge. Infrastructure & Service • Water: High-grade filtration makes the tap water safe for brushing teeth—a rare and functional luxury. • Security: Staff effectively keeps the beach exclusive to guests; we felt safe at all times. • Staff: Truly welcoming hospitality. Special thanks to Hamad & Rafael—you guys rocked! • Vibe: Focused on "deceleration" (Yoga, fire shows, rainy-day pop-ups). The beach is aesthetically perfect. Minor External Notes If you are looking for "the hair in the soup," there are a few things the hotel cannot influence: the neighboring RIU hotels have audible entertainment (usually stopping by midnight), there is regular boat traffic out on the water, and mosquitoes are a reality once you leave the beach.
Will NEVER stay here again (and I never write these kind of reviews). Hotel was good - the highlights are the beach and the food (both exceptional). The hotel is set on a large property, so it takes a bit to get to the beach from the hotel room. At night, it can also be difficult to navigate from the room to the restaurants, etc --> They should have more lighting and guidance of where the rooms are. The AC only goes down to 24C (75F) --> in the hotels I stay at, especially at a beach resort, I would expect this to be more like 16C or 17C I give 2 stars for customer service. My flight was cancelled by Kenya Airways and I was rebooked on a flight arriving 1 day later. I notified the hotel 4 days prior to my check-in, and they refused to refund me for the 1st night. After repeated back and forth, and transfers between departments, I was finally told they decided to charge me the full amount. This is unacceptable - and in any western hotel chain (I travel very often and stay in Four Seasons / Ritz Carltons / JW Marriotts), they would be more than flexible, even apologetic. Here, absolutely no flexibility, not a care in the world. That is disgusting, and for that reason, I would NEVER stay here again.
The best hotel in Zanzibar: best location - in Kendwa, when the ocean sunsets are beautiful and even in low tide it’s possible to swim; the cleanest and calm private beach, very green territory with natural forest, spicy garden and a lot of birds (birdwatching tours are included!!!), convenient and cozy rooms with terraces, amazing service, delicious food in 3 restaurants, yoga, library and so on. It was totally relaxing and enjoyable experience
A beautiful stay overall, with a few details to refine. Zuri Zanzibar is a truly stunning property — the beach is breathtaking, the rooms are beautiful, and the atmosphere feels calm, safe, and very well curated. The service is warm and attentive, and the à la carte dining was excellent — refined, flavourful, and consistently enjoyable. The buffet, however, felt more average in comparison — perfectly fine, but not quite at the same level. The spa was a highlight for me. I had massages daily with Rebecca, who was exceptional — truly one of the best experiences, and a big part of my stay. One small area for improvement would be the beach maintenance. While naturally beautiful, there was some seaweed and debris brought in by the tide that didn’t seem to be cleared regularly — something that could easily elevate the experience even further. Overall, it’s a very special and beautifully designed resort, and definitely worth visiting.
We had the most incredible stay at Zuri Zanzibar, and I honestly cannot recommend it enough. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional, thoughtful, and genuinely warm. To our absolute delight, we were upgraded to a villa, which completely elevated our experience. The villa was stunning — beautifully designed, private, and felt like pure luxury. It made our stay feel truly special and unforgettable. What made it even more meaningful was how the team went above and beyond to celebrate my birthday. Every detail was considered, and the surprises were so thoughtful — it genuinely felt personal and heartfelt rather than just a gesture. The staff made me feel incredibly special, and it’s something I’ll always remember. The entire resort is breathtaking, the atmosphere is serene, and the level of care from the team is outstanding. Thank you to everyone at Zuri for creating such a memorable experience — we cannot wait to return. ✨🌴
